2017 Buick Encore Gets Latest Tech, Sculpted Design

NEW YORK – Buick today introduced the new 2017 Encore, strengthening the appeal of America’s most popular small SUV with more refined styling and new connectivity technology – including available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

A new front-end appearance and a new premium interior highlight the visual refinements, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported by a next-generation IntelliLink system featuring an 8-inch-diagonal color touch screen.

Push-button start, keyless unlock via the exterior door handles and an 8-inch color touchscreen highlight the Encore’s roster of new standard features.

“The Buick Encore created the premium small SUV segment and remains the top choice for customers seeking premium features and dependability coupled with timeless design,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “In a rapidly evolving segment, the Encore continues to lead with smart, purposeful updates and a new level of technology-infused elegance and refinement.

Introduced in 2013, the Encore quickly carved out a niche of its own, offering the premium features typically associated with larger luxury SUVs but with greater maneuverability. It quickly rose to the top of the fast-growing small SUV market, topping it in 2014 and 2015.

Encore was Buick’s best-selling vehicle in North America in 2015, accounting for nearly a third of overall sales. Its sales were up 34 percent for the first two months of 2016, extending a year-over-year sales increase streak to 26 months.

Overall, SUVs now account for approximately 60 percent of all Buick sales, up from 34 percent prior to the introduction of the Enclave in 2007. Starting this summer with the arrival of the Envision – which slots directly between the Encore and Enclave – Buick will offer SUVs in the market’s three most popular segments.

The 2017 Encore goes on sale this fall, initially offered in five trim levels: Encore (1SB), Encore Sport Touring (1SH), Encore Convenience (1SD), Encore Leather (1SL) and Encore Premium (1SN). Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available.

It is the fourth all-new or significantly updated Buick coming in 2016, joining the Cascada convertible, Envision compact SUV and LaCrosse sedan.

Sculptural Beauty

The new design features the sculptural surfacing and elegant line work that continues to distinguish the Buick brand. The addition of the winged grille with Buick’s new tri-color insignia, new front headlamps and rear LED signature tail lamps contemporize the Encore and set up the visual flow around the entire vehicle. Uplevel models receive Buick’s full LED headlamps, which provide efficient, clear lighting of the road ahead.

“Sporting cues first shown on the award-winning Avenir and Avista concepts, the 2017 Encore embraces Buick’s modern design aesthetic,” said Holt Ware, design director, Buick Exteriors. “The Encore is a crossover known for its presence – the appearance is sleek, muscular and modern.”

Also new are a chrome exhaust outlet, body-color heated outside mirrors, a new 18-inch wheel design and three exterior colors: Black Cherry Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic and White Frost Metallic.

Premium interior

Building on Buick’s reputation for premium and quiet passenger environments, the 2017 Encore elevates with a new interior design and a greater emphasis on material selection, placement and subtle details like bright accents and contrast stitching.

An updated instrument panel flows across the interior and incorporates a new gauge cluster with a 4.2-inch-diagonal color driver information center. Also, a new center stack blends with the instrument panel to offer more intuitive access for the user interface and its new, frameless 8-inch color touch screen.

IntelliLink is designed to support the latest interface technologies, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Buick’s connectivity also includes OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot, which is now standard across the brand’s U.S. model line. With the 4G LTE connection, Encore allows passengers to connect up to seven devices to high-speed wireless Internet.

Core features

All 2017 Encore models offer room for five and up to 48.4 cubic feet (1,371 liters) of storage space with the 60/40 split rear seat folded. Standard features include 10 air bags, StabiliTrak stability enhancement and a 1.4L turbo four-cylinder/six-speed automatic powertrain.

A unique 1.4L turbo with direct injection, more power, more torque and stop/start technology is available on most trims.

EPA estimates will be announced at a later date.

Buick’s exclusive QuietTuning is standard on all models and includes Bose® Active Noise Cancellation technology. Encore also offers available active safety features including Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning.

New Audi R8 LMS wins Nürburgring 24 Hours

The battle for victory in the Eifel endurance race has not been as thrilling as this in a long time. During the 24 hours the lead changed 35 times – a record in the event that has been held since 1970. After the race’s midpoint, either the number ‘28’ R8 LMS or its fiercest rival was running in front, depending on the pit stop sequence. In the end, the Belgian Audi team prevailed with a concentrated performance of its drivers and solid teamwork. Vincent Vosse’s squad and each of the four race drivers celebrated their first victory in this classic event.

“This was a weekend of thrilling racing, as well as an intense and nerve-wracking one,” said Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “Sincere congratulations to our winners who never lost their cool even in the face of some minor irregularities and held up to the pressure. About 50 percent of the GT3 race car is based on its production counterpart it simultaneously celebrated its debut with in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Four new Audi R8 LMS cars were on the grid of the 24-hour race. Last year’s winners Christopher Haase/Christian Mamerow/René Rast/Markus Winkelhock in car number ‘1’ of Audi Sport Team Phoenix led the race several times but were forced to retire following an accident by Christian Mamerow. The German was hospitalized for observation. In the sister car, number ‘4,’ Mike Rockenfeller spun on track due to an oil spill shortly before the race’s midpoint. He was hit by another car that was following him, causing damage to the Audi that was too severe for continuing the race.

The second race car of the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT saw the checkered flag in seventh place. Accident damage had caused Pierre Kaffer (D) and his team-mates Christer Jöns (D), Nicki Thiim (DK) and Laurens Vanthoor (B) to lose three laps in the early stage. However, with good lap times, this driver quartet proved the competitiveness of the Audi R8 LMS as well.

The time-tested Audi R8 LMS ultra model – the 2012 and 2014 winner of the Nürburgring 24 Hours – completed the good result. Team Twin Busch Motorsport with Dennis Busch/Marc Busch/Christiaan Frankenhout (D/D/NL) saw the finish in 11th place, followed by the Audi race experience. The Asian driver line-up of Franky Congfu Cheng/Marchy Lee/Shaun Thong/Alex Yoong (CN/HK/HK/MAL) achieved 12th place whereas the sister car retired after an accident.

World soccer stars in Audi Cup 2015

This year’s event marks the fourth edition of the tournament that celebrated its premiere in 2009 on the occasion of the festivities for the 100th anniversary of the Audi brand. Held at two-year intervals, the Audi Cup has since become established as one of the most important tournaments in preparation of the European soccer season. Real Madrid CF will be competing in Munich under the banner of the four rings for the first time. The other two teams will be announced immediately following the end of the European league seasons at the beginning of June.

The time-tested format of the Audi Cup has remained unchanged. On Tuesday, August 4, the two semi-final meetings will be held. The losers of these matches will be playing for third place on Wednesday, August 5, before the winners meet in the final. The kickoff times on both days will be 18.15 and 20.45. As a result, the spectators at the Allianz Arena will be seeing all four clubs on both match days. The winners’ well-deserved reward: the 60 centimeter tall aluminum trophy designed by Audi.

Arjen Robben, Mario Götze, Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos or Iker Casillas – these are just some of the big names in the participants’ squads that will be breathing life into the ‘In close touch with the best’ motto of the Audi Cup again this year.

New Passenger Minicar to be named eK Space

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today announced its new super height wagon*1minicar will be named eK Space. Images of the eK Space and the eK Space Custom, both planned for launch in Japan in the beginning of 2014, have also been revealed.
The eK Space is the second passenger minicar model planned and developed by the MMC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. joint venture NMKV Co., Ltd., following the eK Wagon and eK Custom models which were launched in Japan in June of this year. The new model has been christened eK Space to reflect a super height wagon minicar with a spacious and comfortable cabin.

The eK Space was developed to an “enjoyable, spacious, satisfying”*2 concept. Inheriting the beyond-its-class premium quality feel that has won the eK Wagon and eK Custom high acclaim, the eK Space brings an increase in cabin volume with an interior height that rivals the leaders in its class. Sporty, elegant and compact – the new Audi A3 Cabriolet

Sporty, elegant and multi-faceted – Audi presents the new A3 Cabriolet. The compact four-seater impresses at first glance with its flowing lines and soft top. It is also at the top of its class technically – with systematic lightweight design, new engines, multi-faceted networking and high-performance assistance systems.

Exterior design
The new Audi A3 Cabriolet has grown compared to the previous model: its length increased from 4.24 to 4.42 meters (13.91 to 14.50 ft), its wheelbase from 2.58 to 2.60 meters (8.46 to 8.53 ft) and its width from 1.77 to 1.79 meters (5.81 to 5.87 ft). Only its height (1.41 meters [4.63 ft]) was reduced by 15 millimeters (0.59 in). This gives the four-seat convertible a more elegant and sporty look on the road. Luggage capacity grew by 60 liters (2.12 cubic ft), and it is easier to load. The wheel housings can handle wheels up to 19 inches in size.

The front of the Audi A3 Cabriolet is characterized by the Singleframe radiator grille. The flat headlights give it a resolute look; they emphasize the horizontal styling and the air intakes in the bumper. Audi offers headlights with LED technology as an option; they are the only LED headlights in the compact segment to offer variable headlight leveling control.

The rear overhang plays a key role in the harmonious proportions of the two-door car. The windshield frame is made of aluminum – and an aluminum-look trim strip runs around the entire car. On the flanks, the design features a taut tornado line and contoured sheet metal surfaces that create a fascinating interplay of light and shadow.

The soft top
The new A3 Cabriolet has a soft cloth top that is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium-steel, and it complements the car’s design perfectly. At the press of a button, the top opens or closes electro-hydraulically in less than 18 seconds, even while driving up to 50 km/h (31.07 mph). In the opened state, the top – folded into three layers – rests in a tray that barely affects luggage capacity, which is 287 liters (10.14 cubic ft).

The fully automatic soft top has a glass rear window and is offered in Black as standard. A fully automatic acoustic top is available as an alternative; it has a thicker inner foam layer which reduces the already low interior noise level of the A3 Cabriolet even more. The acoustic top is available in the three exterior colors of Black, Gray and Brown, and its roofliner is available in black and lunar silver. A wind deflector is standard for the Ambiente trim line, and head-level heating is an option for the front seats. An active rollover protection system protects the occupants in case of a rollover accident. It consists of two spring-loaded plates that are recessed into the body.

In the base version, the car’s curb weight is just 1,365 kilograms (3009.31 lb) – the new Audi A3 Cabriolet is around 50 kilograms (110.23 lb) lighter than the previous model despite its larger size and better comfort. Including its special reinforcements, which deliver high torsional stiffness, the body-in-white weighs 30 kilograms (66.14 lb) less than previously; the engine hood is made of aluminum. Weight was also significantly reduced in the interior and in the engines. This let Audi – a pioneer in this technical field – set an impressive best value in the compact class. Customers can choose from 16 different exterior paints for the body.

Elegantly drawn lines and clean surfaces also typify the interior design of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet. The instrument panel is lean and low, its front is slightly curved, and the center console is angled slightly towards the driver. The large, round air vents in jet design, the control panel for the air conditioner and the three-dimensional trim strips bring premium class elegance into the interior. The optional lighting package includes a touch-sensitive switch for the reading lights – a feature being offered for the first time.

As in every Audi, workmanship quality is uncompromisingly high, and the car’s controls are simple, intuitive and convenient. It offers enough space for four adults, and the seatbacks of the two rear seats can be folded down which opens up a wide through-load area. The steering wheel and seats are new designs, and the also new electro-mechanical parking brake is operated by a pushbutton on the center console.

The trim lines are named Attraction, Ambition and Ambiente. The S line sport package for the Ambition line immerses the interior space entirely in black. Customers can choose cloth, leather or Alcantara/leather upholstery materials. The Audi design selection lasso brown conveys an exclusive look.

Assistance systems
Driving in the new Audi A3 Cabriolet is even more impressive with its highly developed assistance systems. The driver information system with efficiency program and attention assist are already standard features on the Ambition and Ambiente lines. The options program includes adaptive cruise control, Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, camera-based traffic sign recognition, park assist with selective display and various feature levels of the Audi pre sense safety system.

Also extremely attractive is the line-up of infotainment components; at the very top are the Bang & Olufsen sound system and MMI Navigation plus. The super-slender seven-inch monitor extends from the instrument panel electrically. The user terminal has a rotary/push button control that is designed as a touchwheel with MMI touch – the touchwheel’s top surface is a touch-sensitive pad for inputting alpha and numeric characters.

The Audi connect concept aims to network the driver with his or her environment. In the new Audi A3 Cabriolet, this function – which supplements MMI Navigation plus – provides a connection to the Internet, and whenever possible via the fast LTE transmission standard (available starting in November). The integrated WLAN hotspot lets passengers use their mobile devices to surf and e-mail freely.

The system brings Internet services from Audi connect into the car for use by the driver – from navigation with Google Earth images and Google Street View to online traffic information and services such as Facebook and Twitter. The latest service from Audi connect is parking information; it shows available parking spaces in parking and underground garages and parking lots.

The three newly developed engines being offered in the Audi A3 Cabriolet at its launch all emphasize the car’s sporty character. The two TFSI engines produce 103 kW (140 hp) and 132 kW (180 hp) from 1.4 and 1.8 liters of engine displacement, respectively. The 2.0 TDI develops 110 kW (150 hp); Other engines will follow – ranging from the 1.6 TDI with 81 kW (110 hp) to the 2.0 TFSI, which will power the Audi S3 Cabriolet with 221 kW (300 hp). All engines in the new Audi A3 Cabriolet combine the technologies of direct injection, turbocharging and a start-stop-system.

On average, the three engines offered at market launch have twelve percent better fuel economy than the engines in the previous model – and they do so while improving driving performance. The 1.4 TFSI, for example, accelerates the new Audi A3 Cabriolet from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 9.1 seconds, yet its combined fuel consumption value is 5.0 liters fuel per 100 kilometers (47.04 US mpg) and its CO2 emissions are 114 g/km (183.47 g/mile). Also contributing to this efficiency is Audi cylinder on demand (COD) technology, which deactivates two of the engine’s cylinders in low load conditions.

The new Audi A3 Cabriolet also features state-of-the-art technology in power transmission. At its launch, the 1.8 TFSI is being offered with a seven-speed S tronic; together with the Audi drive select vehicle dynamics system, it offers a free-wheeling function that further improves fuel economy. The 1.4 TFSI and 2.0 TDI are each paired with a manual six-speed transmission. This will be followed by the quattro all-wheel drive system – another new feature and USP of the compact Cabriolet.

The chassis of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet impresses with sophisticated technology that delivers sporty handling, superior vehicle safety and a high level of comfort. Some of the components of the MacPherson front suspension are made of aluminum; the four-link rear suspension handles longitudinal and transverse forces separately. The power steering system features an efficient electromechanical drive.

The ESC stabilization control system integrates an electronic limited slip differential – this makes handling even smoother and safer at the vehicle’s cornering limits while driving fast through curves. The brakes are powerful and durable. Wheel sizes range from 16 to 19 inches, and tire sizes range up to 235/35. Two versions of the sporty chassis are offered; the sport suspension lowers the body 15 millimeters (0.59 in), while the S line sport suspension is 25 millimeters (0.98 in) lower.

High-end options in the new Audi A3 Cabriolet include the Audi drive select vehicle dynamics system (standard on the Ambition line). The driver can use this system to modify engine management, power steering, S tronic and air conditioning operation over several modes. This control also extends to optional systems such as the adaptive suspension control system Audi magnetic ride, adaptive cruise control, adaptive light and progressive steering whose steering gear ratio becomes increasingly more direct when turning.

The new Audi A3 Cabriolet will come off the assembly line at Audi’s plant in Győr, Hungary, which Audi has expanded with an investment of more than 900 million euros. Sales begin this autumn in Germany, and first deliveries will be in the first quarter of 2014. The base price for the 1.4 TFSI (103 kW with cylinder on demand technology) is 31,700 euros. Many sporty and comfort/convenience options round out the standard features; they include the deluxe key and S sport seats with integrated head restraints and diamond topstitching in the shoulder area.

Audi S3 Cabriolet (preliminary data)
In the top S3 version, which will follow shortly after the car’s initial launch, the compact Cabriolet delivers very sporty driving performance. The 2.0 TFSI engine produces 221 kW (300 hp) and transfers 380 Nm (280.27 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft. With a six-speed S tronic, the car completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.4 seconds. The combined fuel consumption of the four-cylinder turbo is 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers (33.13 US mpg).

The quattro drivetrain operates with an electronically-controlled hydraulic multi-plate coupling. The body was lowered 25 millimeters (0.98 in), and 17-inch brakes are mounted behind the 18-inch wheels. 19-inch wheels are also available in conjunction with Audi magnetic ride. Progressive steering is standard.

Acura NSX Prototype Excites Racing Fans and Sports Car Enthusiasts Alike Lapping Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Prior to Honda Indy 200 Race


A prototype Acura NSX lapped the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio today, just prior to the running of the Honda Indy 200, exciting fans in the state where the NSX is being developed and will be produced, and showcasing the steady progress being made toward the planned 2015 launch of Acura’s next-generation, mid-engine supercar.

The Acura NSX prototype lapped the 2.4-mile winding road course, driven by a member of the Ohio-based engineering development team. The NSX prototype sported custom graphics that speak to Acura’s intention to go racing with the new NSX.

“With leadership from our R&D and manufacturing teams here in Ohio, we are developing a next generation sports car that will be equally at home on the street and on the race track, so it is natural for us to showcase the prototype vehicle here at Mid-Ohio,” said Ted Klaus, chief engineer of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. “It is exciting for us to see the prototype running on the track, reflecting the great progress we’re making toward the 2015 global launch of the NSX, as we engineer a new sports-car experience for customers around the world.”

Targeting next-generation supercar dynamic capabilities with advanced environmental performance, Acura announced in 2012 that the Acura NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected V-6 engine mated to Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system.

Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® is an all-new, three-motor high-performance hybrid system that combines torque vectoring all-wheel drive with advanced hybrid efficiency through the use of three electric motors – one motor integrated with the V-6 engine and its all-new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) driving the rear wheels, and two independent motors driving the front wheels. The system enables instant delivery of negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering to achieve a new level of driving performance unparalleled by current AWD systems.

Award-Winning Honda Accord Lineup Gets Even Stronger for 2014

TORRANCE, Calif., – Honda today announced the 2014 Accord Coupe will go on-sale tomorrow followed by the Accord Sedan on August 22. Featuring the award-winning Honda Earth Dreams Technology™ powertrains, the Accord lineup includes a direct injected 4-cylinder engine and a powerful and fuel-efficient V-6. A sporty CVT (4-cylinder models only) and a 6-speed manual transmission are also available. A new 2-motor Accord Hybrid, built1 with the rest of the Accord lineup in a Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio, will debut later this fall.

Launched in fall 2012, Accord was the most popular midsize passenger car in America for the first six months of 2013, based on sales to individual (non-fleet) car buyers, according to new vehicle registration data from R.L. Polk.

The all-new 2013 Accord has earned a host of awards for setting new benchmarks for fuel efficiency, fun-to-drive performance, customer-friendly connectivity, advanced safety features and overall value.

Starting at $21,955, the 2014 Honda Accord Sedan goes on sale August 22, 2013, and the Coupe, with prices starting at $23,625, launches tomorrow. The 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid Sedan, with prices starting at $39,780, debuted in early 2013. Pricing for the 2014 Accord Hybrid Sedan will be announced closer to its October on-sale date.

Extensive use of under-covers improve the aerodynamics for increased fuel efficiency, while other advances include available LED headlights, DRLs and brake lights, and mirror-mounted turn signals.

New 2014 Toyota Tundra Offers Full-Size Pickup Truck Owners Value Pricing

TORRANCE, Calif., August 8, 2013 – – The redesigned 2014 Tundra full-size pickup (FSPU) truck will offer value-driven prices when it goes on sale this month.

The new Tundra is competitively priced for 2014, offered in a new five-grade strategy consisting of the hard-working SR, volume-leading SR5, the well-appointed Limited, and two premium grades: “Platinum” and the all-new “1794 Edition.” Tundra is offered in three cab styles, two-door Regular Cab, four-door Double Cab and four-door CrewMax, all available in 4×2 and 4×4. Each grade is well-equipped with a vast array of key standard features for simplified ordering.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) on all SR5 grades equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine will be unchanged from equivalent volume-leading 2013 models and add $650 worth of additional standard equipment. All Limited CrewMax 4×4 models have reduced MSRP’s of $2,000 from equivalent 2013 models (4×2 models reduced by $1,990).

All Platinum and 1794 Edition premium grade MSRP’s are reduced by $850 from equivalent 2013 models. Both the Platinum and 1794 Edition share the same MSRP, allowing consumers to simply choose the premium grade they prefer.

The base MSRP for the 2014 Tundra will range from $25,920 for the SR grade 4×2 Regular Cab, 4.0-liter V6 to $47,320 for the Platinum and 1794 Edition CrewMax 4×4 grades equipped with a 5.7-liter V8. Based on comparisons between the new grade strategy for 2014 models and 2013 models with comparable equipment levels, the MSRP’s reflect an overall average decrease of $263, or 0.7 percent.

An Array of Standard Convenience Features
Tundra features a number of key standard features, and is the only truck in the full-size pickup segment to include a standard back-up camera (viewed from the audio display screen), and standard Bluetooth® hands-free phone and audio streaming on all grades.

All Tundra models have a standard windshield wiper de-icer, front and rear mudguards, power window and door locks, and heated, power, outside mirrors. A Tow Hitch is also standard equipment on models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 engine.

All SR and SR5 grade models come standard with air conditioning, while all Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition models come with standard dual zone air conditioning with individual temperature settings for driver and front passenger. An auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, and HomeLink® universal transceiver is standard on Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition grades.

The Limited grade adds leather-trimmed seats, a 10-way power driver seat, chrome door handles and outer mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, a deck rail system, and Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite.

The Platinum and 1794 Edition come standard with a 12-way power driver’s seat with memory and a six-way power passenger’s seat, both with heat and ventilation, power moonroof, power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, front and rear parking sonar, and Entune Premium JBL Audio with Navigation and App Suite.

The 2014 Tundra is the only full-size pickup with available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (available on Limited CrewMax, Platinum and 1794 Edition only).

Chiseled New, Unique Exterior Designs; Distinct Look for Each Grade
Tundra is newly designed, inside and out, representing a major change since the 2007 model year. Each Tundra grade embodies a specific theme through distinct designs that go beyond badging.

The new front design integrates the hood and grille for a chiseled image. Designers increased the size of the front fascia and tightened up the surfaces and character lines to visually punctuate Tundra’s pulling power and wide stance. The grille has a taller, bolder look, visually connecting the upper intake to the lower bumper. The front lower bumpers are now a three-piece design, allowing for lower replacement costs. In addition, the fenders and wheel wells have been squared-off for a wide and sturdy stance.

A new exterior design helps carry the chiseled character lines all the way down the profile, leading to a rugged new bed and tail gate, with an integrated spoiler and “TUNDRA” embossed into the sheet metal, creating a one-piece forged look. Like the front bumper, the rear bumper changes from one piece to three, for lower replacement costs.

Tundra offers a palette of nine exterior colors including three new colors: Attitude Black Metallic; Sunset Bronze Mica; and Blue Ribbon Metallic. Popular carryover colors include Radiant Red, Super White, Silver Sky Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Black, and Barcelona Red.

A New Premium,Spacious Interior; Each Grade With a Unique Identity
Tundra features new contemporary interior styling focusing on differentiation between grades, while improving the availability of features most important to truck buyers. The new interior variations are thematic and cater to a specific customer with a specific budget. Ergonomic improvements include easier driver access to controls as the reach to the audio and HVAC controls was reduced by 2.6 inches. Overall passenger comfort was improved with a new front and rear (CrewMax) seat design and improved front seat ventilation. In addition, front seats have additional travel, and rear seats can now be folded up for additional cargo carrying capability while maintaining a comfortable seating back angle and lowering load height by more than 11 inches.

The interior has a rugged, interlocked construction with new instrument panel. The instrument panel features individual gauges grouped in a clear, easy-to-see design with a center-mounted multi-information (LCD) display screen. The console design holds multiple storage areas for personal items and electronics plus additional padded surfaces and accent stitching in premium grades. Both Double Cab and CrewMax are available with a bench or bucket seats for the front row.

The interior of the SR5 features a “professional gear” theme, with unique driver and passenger zones, metallic accents and bold contrasting fabric. Most importantly, the new design uses premium surface treatments such as high granulated paint on the center cluster and unique seat stitching to enhance interior quality and durability.

The Limited grade has an “active premium” image with leather seating surfaces matching soft-touch door and console surfaces, and wood-style interior trims.

The Limited will be available with Black, Sand Beige and Graphite leather-trimmed interiors and will have standard dual zone auto HVAC controls.

The Platinum grade has been redesigned for the next generation of personal use truckers. It features perforated, diamond pleated premium leather seats, door and instrument panel inserts, and chrome seat and console accent badging for an upscale, yet urban feel. In addition, Platinum uses premium leather never before used on a Toyota truck.

The 1794 Edition reflects a western lifestyle theme and includes exclusive brown premium leather-trimmed seating with embossed leather and ultra-suede accents. Matching soft-touch materials also accent the shift console, the front and rear door trim, and the instrument panel.

Three Engine Options Remain Among Segment’s Most Capable
Tundra continues to offer three proven powertrains that are among the best in its segment. The Tundra workhorse, and still one of the most capable and advanced engines in the full-size pickup segment, is the 5.7-liter, DOHC i-Force V8. Tundra’s most popular engine with owners, it generates 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 foot-pounds of peak torque at 3,600 rpm. The 5.7-liter is offered in both gasoline and “Flex Fuel” variants.

A 4.0-liter Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) V6 is standard on Tundra Regular and Double Cab SR models and produces 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 foot-pounds of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with uphill/downhill shift logic. The 4.6-liter, DOHC i-Force V8 offers 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 327 foot-pounds of peak torque at 3,400rpm.

Several enhancements have been implemented on the 2014 Tundra to improve performance. Shock-absorber valving has been re-tuned to improve ride quality over harsh surfaces.

The Tundra SR and SR5 grades will ride on 18-inch styled steel wheels, while the Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition will have all-new 20-inch alloy wheels specific to each grade.

Toyota believes it is important for truck owners to be able to tow with confidence. This is why Tundra has been compliant with the SAE J2807 towing standard since 2011 and remains the industry’s only full-size truck to adopt the standard.

The prices for the 2014 Tundra take effect tomorrow, August 9 when the redesigned Tundra begins arriving at Toyota dealers.

Audi A3 1.6 TDI ultra: Versatile marvel of fuel economy

Audi has unveiled the brand’s most fuel-efficient production model. With 81 kW (110 hp) of power output, the Audi A3 1.6 TDI ultra consumes just 3.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (73.50 US mpg). This equates to an astounding 85 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer (136.79 g/mile). This versatile marvel of fuel economy is now for sale. Customers can take delivery of the Audi A3 1.6 TDI ultra starting in September. The base price in Germany will be 25,200 euros.

Boasting a top speed of 200 km/h (124.27 mph) and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in a mere 10.5 seconds, the A3 1.6 TDI ultra is thoroughly sporty. Every bit as impressive: it truly excels at long-distance drives. Its 50-liter (13.21 US gallons) fuel tank facilitates trips in excess of 1,500 kilometers (932.06 miles).

The five-door A3 1.6 TDI ultra is every bit as spacious and comfortable as the rest of Audi’s model line of premium compact cars. It also features air conditioning, Audi radio and power windows as standard equipment. Moreover, the A3 1.6 TDI ultra is available as a three-door compact or a five-door Sportback.

Low fuel consumption and extraordinary sustainability paved the way for the technological DNA of today’s A3 model line. CHINO, Calif., August 5, 2013 – The California Energy Commission (CEC) has awarded Hydrogen Frontier, Inc. a $3 million grant to build a new 100 percent renewable hydrogen fueling station for fuel cell electric vehicles at Hyundai’s hydrogen energy generation and fueling station in Chino, Calif.

The project will include:
• 100 percent of the energy consumed in generation and operation of the station and 100 percent of the fuel dispensed will come from a renewable source, a new path of innovation and sustainability in California
◦ Energy used to create hydrogen will be purchased from a renewable energy provider
◦ With this upgrade, the station will be able to produce at least 100 kilograms of hydrogen per day, enough to
dispense approximately 6,000 to 9,000 vehicle fill-ups with hydrogen annually
• Capability to produce hydrogen from the electrolysis of water on site
• System pressures of 350 Bar and 700 Bar will allow fueling of all fuel cell vehicles (FCV) including fast refueling
The station, situated at a testing facility for Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc., will be located at the site of an existing hydrogen station originally constructed in 2005 to support Hyundai’s fuel cell vehicle fleet. On top of the $3 million rebuilding project funded by the California Energy Commission grant, an additional $1.7 million funded by partners Hydrogen Frontier Inc., Powertech and ITM Power will go toward modernizing the facility to meet the latest industry standards for hydrogen generation, storage and dispensing.

The required completion date for the renovations is October 2014, at which point the fueling station will open to the public for the first time. Production of the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell began at the company’s Ulsan manufacturing plant in Korea in January 2013, making Hyundai the first automaker to begin commercial production of a hydrogen-powered vehicle. The first complete car rolled off the assembly line on February 26, 2013. Hyundai is investigating potential demand for the Tucson Fuel Cell Vehicle in the U.S. market, particularly in California, where most of the hydrogen refueling infrastructure development has taken place.

“Hydrogen Frontier Inc. is excited to work with this innovative group of companies for this unique opportunity,” said Daniel Poppe, vice president, Hydrogen Frontier Inc. “This was our first hydrogen station in 2005 that we were asked to contribute to. Now, less than 10 years later, we get to do a complete comprehensive update of that same site.”
Hyundai has researched hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles in the United States since 2000. It is a member of the California Fuel Cell Partnership and has conducted fleet testing of three generations of SUV-based hydrogen vehicles across the United States.

Hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen to create electricity which powers the electric-drive vehicles. Fuel cell vehicles have no tailpipe greenhouse emissions and their extended range between fill-ups and the speed at which they refuel are comparable to that of conventional vehicles. The development of fueling stations, such as the Chino facility, is crucial to the success of fuel cells in the marketplace. In California today, there are eight public stations, and 17 more are in development. The goal is to have 68 stations in place to support the larger rollout of the vehicles in the next few years.
